The time’s finally arrived, Sony Ericsson have officially announced the Android powered Xperia handset. We first heard of the handset under the codename of Rachael, which later became known as the X3. Rumours had started flying that the handset had been renamed to the X10 and with the announcement from Sony Ericsson, we can confirm this is correct.
Along with using Android as the operating system, it will also use a unique Sony Ericsson UX platform on top of the Android OS. The X10 will be the flagship phone of 2010 with release slated for the first half.
The X10 will be released in selected markets in Q1 in white or black. You can view the press release here and the X10 page here.
You can view the “specs at a glance” after the jump.
Smartphone meets netbook with the Smartbook from Sony Ericsson. The company is said to be working on a device which is larger than their current smartphones, such as the Xperia X1 and upcoming Xperia handsets, which will also allow the machine to function more like a laptop. The smartbook won’t actually feature laptop like features and is will contain less specs than a standard netbook, which many consumers use on the go. Size wise, it’s likely to be around the same size as the Sony Vaio P.
NetbookNews have heard from a reliable source, that the Smartbook will be coming soon, so hopefully we’ll see it before the end of the year.
We’ve seen the initial photos of the Xperia X3, we’ve seen some great photos of the handset in white. We’ve now got the stunning pictures of the handset in black, in much better quality than the original photos of Rachael.
Which model to you prefer? The classic black, or the slick white?
The Xperia X3, previously known as Rachael had previously been listed on Expansys for pre-order. It looks like this was a mistake on Expansys part, as the product page has now been removed. Searching for Xperia handsets also yields no results, apart from the X1 of course.
As per most Sony Ericsson phones, Rachael, possibly the Xperia X3 is available in more than just black. The above picture shows the Xperia handset in white and at different angles to what we’ve previously seen.
That’s not the only Rachael news we’ve got. The Android interface has been captured on video and uploaded to YouTube. The interface looks really good and hopefully we’ll be seeing more of it really soon. Preferably from Sony themselves next time, who are still to officially announce “Rachael” aka Xperia X3, along with the Xperia X2 Vulcan.
