Future phones from Sony Ericsson, are no longer to use the Memory Stick Micro card but rather the more established and popular, not to mention cheaper, microSD option. For those who have gone from the K800i onwards, perhaps it isn’t good news, my 2GB Micro card has been useful for my other, upgraded models. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is one of the phones to drop the Memory Stick Micro support and instead uses microSD cards which was a popular decision. The use of microSD is more widespread, making it possible to use one memory stick for several devices. The cost however makes it possible to be able to buy more than one and have it be useful, even if you change to a different brand phone. MicroSD is already seen on many other phones such as Nokias.

Sony Ericsson have announced that Q4 will see the launch of 3 new handsets. The first handset, the Satio, is the official name of the Idou. As previously reported, it will feature an impressive 12 mega pixel camera which offers the Cyber-Shot side of the phone, while combining the phone with the Walkman experience. Also included is GPS and Wifi, as well as featuring a touch screen. The Satio is to be a smartphone and will run Symbian S60 5th Edition OS.

The other two handsets announced, Yari and Aino, are both gaming orientated phones making the Aino the closest we’re going to get to a Playstation phone (for now anyway lets hope). The Aino allows connectivity between the phone and a Sony PS3 as well as PC. Sony Remote Play will also be included on the handset, which is already found on the popular Sony PSP. The phone will also feature an 8.1 megapixel camera, a 3 inch touchscreen and GPS.

Yari on the other hand, doesn’t connect to any consoles, but it does feature gesture based technology. It will work similarly to the Nintendo Wii remote, allowing you to move, control and box in games. A less impressive camera on this handset at 5 megapixels, but still good enough to take great pictures.

If you’ve just got a new Sony Ericsson phone, perhaps you’re looking for a new ringtone to go with it, or bored of your current one, I’ve found a really great site that lets you download 30 second ringtones, mostly clips from songs or tv and movie theme tunes. Brinked, the free ringtone community offers users to search for music or browse by category. The ringtones are free to download, but you must be a member, which again is free to sign up.

With Brinked, you can also create your own ringtones by selecting a file from your computer. You can then edit it on the website. It’s also possible, which I haven’t seen on other ringtone sites, is that you can also create a ringtone from a Youtube video. The website converts the video and then you can begin editing it to make your ringtone.

Brink also supports other phones and allows you to download the ringtones in MP3, WAV, M4R or OGG, so if your phone supports those formats, take a look at Brink, the free ringtone community.
