While games on the PS3 have supported 3D for a little while now, Sony hadn’t added 3D support for Blu-ray movies. This is set to change on the 21st of September though, when Sony will release a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3. Firmware 3.50 will allow all PS3s worldwide (38 million of them) to play Blu-ray movies in 3D, as long as you have a 3D TV of course. Other features should be included in the update as well but, we’ll have to wait until the update is released to find out what.

As promised, Sony have released the 3.40 firmware update for the PlayStation 3. As well as adding support for the recently released PSN+ service, the update adds a Photo Gallery and a Video Editor and Uploader. The Photo Gallery allows you to browse photos found on Facebook or Picasa Web Albums. You can then share the photos with friends on the PlayStation Network. While the Video Editor, can be found through the XMB. You can edit your videos and save them. You also have the ability to upload the videos so other users can download them. There’s also a “five star rating” for videos, so you know which videos others have found most enjoyable. So far, there also hasn’t been any issues raised with the latest firmware.

Sony Ericsson has released a minor update for Xperia X10. This update from Sony has reportedly improved performance, especially in Timescape and Mediascape.
The update is R1FB001 and baseband version 1.0.21. As of now, the update is only available for phones running the Nordic and American firmware.
The update will soon be released for the rest of the world.

Sony Ericsson released the second firmware update for their touch-driven Aino which “reduces the power usage, improves the overall stability and adds a bunch of themes.”
Apart from the longer battery life, the new Aino firmware also brings new video codec support (MIME-type MPEG4-generic), improved WLAN and Bluetooth coexistence, and three brand new themes.
There will also be a new game – the Bubble Town 2.
The Aino features a 3.0″ 16 Million colour touch screen display with a resolution of 240*432, 8MP Camera (Autofocus, LED Flash, Touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilizer, smart contrast, red-eye reduction, videocalling), GPS, Wi-Fi etc.

While Sony’s previous firmware update for the PS3 left much to be desired, with one PS3 owner filing a class action lawsuit, it’s good to see some good things come from a firmware update. Perhaps the main feature for some, is the ability to game in 3D. The update brings 3D stereoscopic gaming, coincide with the launch of 3D Sony Bravia TVs.
The sorting options within Trophies has also been made easier in both the Trophy Collection section and while comparing Trophies.
