Sony Vaio FW Series

‘There’s nothing quite like watching movies on the big screen. And with the new VAIO FW, you can now enjoy the ultimate widescreen experience wherever you are.’ That’s the tagline for the new Vaio FW and I have to say I for one agree.

The Vaio FW features a 16.4 inch widescreen display complete with HD capability displaying at 1080. As always, this includes the X-Black screen only found in Vaio’s with a resolution of 1600×900 and 16:9 aspect ratio. No wonder it’s perfect for watching movies on.

The Vaio FW won’t leave you left with just standard definition videos and DVDs either as it also includes an intergrated Blu-ray disc drive as well as Dolby Sound Room. What does this mean? Well you can have over 9 hours of HD video playback as well as enjoying the recreated acoustic sounds of a small theatre in surround sound. To make the most of Dolby Sound Room, it’s recommended that you use headphones.

Other specs you’ll find in the FW is an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of RAM, wlan, bluetooh and a hard drive with between 250GB to 300GB space depending on the model.

So that’s what’s inside, but what is it like on the outside? The Vaio FW is finished in a durable and lightweight magnesium alloy, with a thing walled chassis to preserve portability, but don’t be fooled by the thing walled chassis, it also provides rugged protection from shocks and knocks.

With regards to the keyboard, Sony have included an ergonmic isolation keyboard with vertically protruding keys and optimum spacing. This in theory should minimise the number of typing errors as well as making it more comfortable than ever while using a keyboard as it has no lateral movement and the centre of each key slightly indented to ensure each key stroke provides a solid and precise response.
