Sony recently released an updated version to their wearable Walkman W202, in the form of the Sony Walkman W252. The W252 is an all in one Walkman as such, as it provides you with 2GB of space to fit your music collection on to, while also providing the earphones within the Walkman. The new feature of the W252 over the W202, is that the newer model is waterproof, making it perfect for workouts, or wearing in the rain. It’s also possible to wear it while in the shower, although it’s recommended that you don’t keep the water on them constantly with force. The same is true for swimming, while they can be put under a tap, it’s recommended you don’t wear them while swimming.
One of our readers and Twitter follows, AsamPlusONE has received his new NWZ-W252 Walkman and has provided a video review of the Sony product. The W252 can be picked up for £50 to £60 in the UK and $60 in the US. You can view Asam’s video below.
Since getting my Sony Ericsson Satio, one complaint I’ve had so far, is the battery life. It reminds me of an old Motorola I used to have, which needed charging every 16-24 hours, 22-26 if I didn’t use it at all. OK, so the Satio may not be that bad but, I’m used to my phones lasting 2-3 days without a charge, regardless of usage. The Satio, I’ve charged three times since getting it, with the battery lasting around 36 hours. After looking into it, it seems the Satio ships with a 1000 mAh battery, which is rather low, considering that the phone is a high end device and part of the Entertainment Unlimited range. Unfortunately, you’re time using the entertainment is limited. Anders Westin, head of Sony Ericsson Software Relations was quized on the battery life recently and replied “don’t you mean 1,350 mAh?” before showing his Satio’s battery off.
It’s a shame we didn’t get to see this as end users, it would have made the phone much better than it already is, as I know I’ll be watching the battery on it while taking photos and listening to music. The higher capacity battery however, is currently not available to purchase from Sony Ericsson. eBay and third parties also don’t appear to have the battery, apart from the standard 1000 (which state the standard battery is 600 mAh), or 900 mAh.
The Sony PSP 3000 is Sony’s newest advancement in mobile gaming. The 3000 is certainly an upgrade from previous PSP models. Right away you notice that the screen looks sharper and brighter. At times in older models, when you went into a dark area in the game it became hard to see and navigate your way around the game. The sony PSP 3000 also features Skype, and built in microphone to further advance the PSP in online gaming. The PSP also has a great game lineup with many of your favorite titles from the original playstation as well as new titles. Many of these titles also offer graphics that are superb to titles available for the Nintendo DS.
While the 3000 is definitely a step in the right direction, that does not mean that the system is perfect. During graphic intense moments while gaming, the system often displays scan lines and even has some lag while it computes what’s going on. The screen also has problems of its own. If you are able to actually remove all of the fingerprints the screen seems to attract, you then have to worry about the glare. I don’t think anyone is sure why Sony isn’t using glare resistant screens with their PSP’s, as it has been one of the biggest complaints throughout their production.
In conclusion, if you own a PSP already, it’s probably worth considering whether you really need to upgrade before buying. The PSP Brite is a step above what you have now but, not a lot really. If you are considering buying a PSP, the 3000 is the best model currently available. The PSP 3000 is a step in the right direction, but the system is still far from perfect, it’s getting there though.
