Sony, like many other manufacturers have jumped into the tablet market and we saw two tablets announced by them a few months back. Both tablets stood apart from the rest of the crowd. The Sony Tablet S, previously known as the S1 was released back in September and featured a design which has been described as being similar to a folded back magazine. Sony’s other tablet entry, the Tablet P, previously known as the S2 features two 5.5 inch touch screen displays and a clam shell design akin to Nintendo’s DS.
The Sony Tablet P has now been released in the UK and comes with a £499.99 price tag. For that, you get two 5.5 inch displays, with 1024×480 resolution, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD support, dual core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and a 5 megapixel camera on the back, with a VGA camera on the inside. The tablet runs Android 3.2 which, will most likely be upgraded to Android 4.0 some time in the future. The Tablet P, along with the Tablet S comes with PlayStation certification and there are already several PSone games that have been ported to the tablets, such as Wipeout and Crash Bandicoot.
While Sony have dared to be different with the design, it seems like they have dared to be different with the price tag as well. Most tablets are around the £400 mark, such as the Apple iPad and Sony’s Tablet S so it will be interesting to see how this uniquely designed tablet will fare in the market.
Sony’s first tablet, the “Sony Tablet S” was released this month in the UK and now has been released in the US. The Sony Tablet S has gone in sale in the US for $499 for the 16GB Wifi model, where as the 32GB model is priced at $599.
Previously known as the S1, the tablet features Android Honeycomb 3.1 which has been made specifically for tablets. Sony have made the tablet PlayStation certified, allowing you to play classic games from the original PlayStation. It will also feature a universal remote control application, allowing you to “control your entire living room with the Sony Tablet S”. You’re not just limited to Sony products either, the application supports other brands.
The Sony Tablet S now has a release date and pricing information in the UK. Sony’s first tablet the Tablet S, previously known as the S1 will be available in the UK from Friday September 16th. Pricing starts at £399 for the 10 inch tablet.
There are three different configuration options for the Sony Tablet S. With 16GB internal storage and Wifi only, the tablet will cost £399. With Wifi and 3G the tablet is an extra £100 and will retail for £499. Sony have priced the 32GB Wifi model at £479.
You can pre-order the Sony Tablet S through various retailers including Sony themselves and the Dixons group which includes PC World and Currys.
