Smartphone meets netbook with the Smartbook from Sony Ericsson. The company is said to be working on a device which is larger than their current smartphones, such as the Xperia X1 and upcoming Xperia handsets, which will also allow the machine to function more like a laptop. The smartbook won’t actually feature laptop like features and is will contain less specs than a standard netbook, which many consumers use on the go. Size wise, it’s likely to be around the same size as the Sony Vaio P.
NetbookNews have heard from a reliable source, that the Smartbook will be coming soon, so hopefully we’ll see it before the end of the year.

During the research for the GreenHeart line of phones, which are eco friendly and made from recycled materials, Sony Ericsson made some discovers on touch screen handsets. Phones, such as the Xperia X1 which feature a touch screen are not as good for the environment. The screen on the Xperia is 3 inches, which is about the average for touchscreen handsets, can not be made as easily from recycled materials. Handsets with a touch screen rely heavily on glass for the screen compared to smaller handsets, which can use recycled plastic.
A smartphone, or touch screen phone, can give out 25/30kgs of CO2 emissions during it’s usage. Where as a green phone, will omit around 18kgs. This is due to the touch screen and also based on the fact, that most touch screen or smartphones have more than just calling and texting features. Features such as Wi-Fi or GPS can use up more battery life than a call, meaning eco friendly batteries can’t be used in the handsets.
