Sony have revealed that the 3D Blu-ray update, allowing playback of 3D Blu-ray movies, for the PlayStation 3 console should be available at some point in September. The release was originally dated as available “in the fall” of this year. There will also be a further update to come after that to add compatibility for 3D photographs on the PS3.

Sony’s Digital Comics service for their PlayStation Portable handheld console has included a new publisher to it’s line up in the form of the almighty DC Comics and to celebrate the union there are a number of free comics on offer from the service for users to pick up.
There will be over 80 initial titles available to dowload including Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Fables: Legends in Exiles and Planetary: All Over the World and Other Stories. There will also be exclusive Superman, Batman, Resistance, Free Realms and God of War content and of course, some of which is also PlayStation based gaming content in the first place which is great news for gaming fans.

It has been confirmed by the BBC that it’s popular iPlayer media application will be updated on the Sony PlayStation 3 at some point in 2010, according to TechRadar.
IPlayer 3 went live online in June and includes the ‘for you’ social network recommendation service.
The BBC have stated that in March this year 6% of iPlayer users were PlayStation 3 users and have praised Sony and the PS3 platform previously. They look to cement their relationship with Sony and the PlayStaion 3 user base by upgrading the iPlayer 3 in line with the other formats that it is available on.

After seeing E3 2010 come and go without a hint of a PSP2 on show from Sony, chief Operating Officer for Capcom in Europe David Reeves has told gamesindustry.biz, quite wisely, that he feels that Sony simply have to release a new PSP in order to keep up with Nintendo in the handheld market. As he is the former European Sony Computer Entertainment boss, he may just know what he is talking about too.

Valve made a well recieved announcement at E3 2010 in the form of the revelation that Portal 2 will be coming to the PlayStation 3 in 2011 and the PS3 version is set to be, according to Gabe Newell the “best on any console”.
Surprising words as Newell, Valve and Sony have been less than friendly towards each other in the past with regards to the lack of commitment Valve have shown in developing games for the PS3.
The PS3 version of Portal 2 will have Steam support as the Valve announcement also claimed that “Steam will be part of the experience”. Portal 2 will then be updated via Steam on the console.
