If you haven’t picked up Sony’s first official netbook yet, the VAIO W11S1E, it may be time to do so. I’ve been thinking of picking one up myself and took a look on PC World to see how much they were and if they were now available for collection from store. After finding nothing from the site, I checked back on our previous story about the Vaio W and followed the link. The PC World link now takes users to the netbook section. It it still possible to buy the VAIO W11S1E from the UK though as Amazon still have the netbook in stock.

The first official netbook from Sony is now available in both the UK and US. US consumers can purchase the netbook from Best Buy in white, brown or pink for $499.99. Amazon.com are also listing the netbook but, currently only have pink in stock.

For the UK, the netbook is retailing for £374.95-£381.26 depending on color. Both the pink and brown are available at the higher price, while the classic white is the cheapest of the three variants. Amazon UK are also listing the netbook in all three colors.

If you’re thinking of going into your local Best Buy or PC World to pick the netbook up instead of online delivery, unfortunately you’re out of luck. Both retailers only have the Sony Vaio W netbook available for online orders and not in store or for collection.

sony-ericsson-smartbookSmartphone meets netbook with the Smartbook from Sony Ericsson. The company is said to be working on a device which is larger than their current smartphones, such as the Xperia X1 and upcoming Xperia handsets, which will also allow the machine to function more like a laptop. The smartbook won’t actually feature laptop like features and is will contain less specs than a standard netbook, which many consumers use on the go. Size wise, it’s likely to be around the same size as the Sony Vaio P.

NetbookNews have heard from a reliable source, that the Smartbook will be coming soon, so hopefully we’ll see it before the end of the year.

sony-vaio-signature-collection

Remember the decorated Vaio T designed by Japanese artist Hayashi? Well how about an official decorated notebook from Sony themselves. Over at SonyStyle US a range of new notebooks have been added, dubbed the Signature Collection. The Signature Collection adds a stylish look to various Vaio laptops ranging from the pocketable but not a netbook Vaio P to the Vaio CS range.

As the name suggests, the laptops are part of a collection and therefore limited in quantity. The Vaio TT in electric blue and Carbon Fibre Z are down to 120 left, where as the Vaio P in glossy black and a few other models, still have 1000 left.

The full range in the Signature Collection is as follows;

Vaio P in Glossy Black
Vaio TT in Electric Blue
VAIO SR in Champagne Gold
Vaio Z in Bordeaux Red, Carbon Fibre and Kalidoscope
Vaio CS in Crocodile Brown, Crocodile Red or Crocodile Pink and Deep Violet.

Yes you read that right, “the netbook but not a netbook” Vaio P from Sony has been hacked to run the Mac OS. Well, kinda. The drivers for the video chip weren’t great in it’s original Windows OS, but InsanelyMac forum members, ryuu123 and maccosmo have solved the problem and posted how they did it. 3D games and apps however can’t be run because of missing drivers. The WiFi, GPS, 3G and Ethernet also don’t work, so currently getting online isn’t an easy task. So while the Vaio P can run OS X, it needs a lot more tweaking before it can be used as an every day operating system. Despite that though, it’s still said to be better and faster than Vista on the machine.

Over at SonyInsider, they’ve found some information regarding other P series laptops. The Sony Vaio Portable is currently available in the P500 series.  The new model numbers that have been revealed are P710T/B, P710T/R, P710T/G and P710T/w, indicating that the colors of black, red, green and white will remain the same. Two other models listed are the P730A/Q and P730T/Q.  Sony Insider hint that these could be new models with hopefully higher specifications, such as more RAM, bigger storage space in the form of SSD, or even a different processor. As of now this is all just rumour, but we’ll keep you informed of any updates.

vaino_sony_copy_1
Who doesn’t love clones of popular gadgets? A cheap alternative to popular and highly sought after devices. Usually providing just as many features as the original product and almost identical to it, leaving many friends fooled.

The latest hi tech device to have a fake made is the Sony Vaio P, aptly named Vaino. It features the normal netbook specs of 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive and a 10.2 inch display. Obviously the larger screen size makes the Vaino a different size to the Vaio P, but it looks like it and that’s all that matters right? That and the considerable cheaper price tag of $392 and worldwide shipping from EeMobi
