Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced a tie – up with Time Warner. HBO, the premium cable television network will be made available on the PlayStation 3 starting today, in the USA. PlayStation 3 users can now download HBO programs, making it the first gaming console to offer such a feature. The deal allows users to pay a premium price to download episodes from 11 HBO series, and view it on the PS3 or the PSP.
“HBO’s innovative and popular programming rounds out Sony’s premium TV content offering and enables consumers to enjoy an even wider array of award-winning mini-series and episodic content,” said Michael Aragon, general manager, Global Digital Video Distribution and Operations for Sony Network Entertainment.
A number of shows will be made available including True Blood, Big Love, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, The Wire, Rome, Da Ali G Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Flight of the Conchords.
The shows will be made available roughly 11 months after premiering on the network, which coincides with the time they’re released on DVD.
Users will have to pay 99 cents per individual episode. However the popular vampire series True Blood will apparently carry a $2.99 per episode price tag.
