sony-vaio-signature-collection

Remember the decorated Vaio T designed by Japanese artist Hayashi? Well how about an official decorated notebook from Sony themselves. Over at SonyStyle US a range of new notebooks have been added, dubbed the Signature Collection. The Signature Collection adds a stylish look to various Vaio laptops ranging from the pocketable but not a netbook Vaio P to the Vaio CS range.

As the name suggests, the laptops are part of a collection and therefore limited in quantity. The Vaio TT in electric blue and Carbon Fibre Z are down to 120 left, where as the Vaio P in glossy black and a few other models, still have 1000 left.

The full range in the Signature Collection is as follows;

Vaio P in Glossy Black
Vaio TT in Electric Blue
VAIO SR in Champagne Gold
Vaio Z in Bordeaux Red, Carbon Fibre and Kalidoscope
Vaio CS in Crocodile Brown, Crocodile Red or Crocodile Pink and Deep Violet.

Yes you read that right, “the netbook but not a netbook” Vaio P from Sony has been hacked to run the Mac OS. Well, kinda. The drivers for the video chip weren’t great in it’s original Windows OS, but InsanelyMac forum members, ryuu123 and maccosmo have solved the problem and posted how they did it. 3D games and apps however can’t be run because of missing drivers. The WiFi, GPS, 3G and Ethernet also don’t work, so currently getting online isn’t an easy task. So while the Vaio P can run OS X, it needs a lot more tweaking before it can be used as an every day operating system. Despite that though, it’s still said to be better and faster than Vista on the machine.

Sorry guys, but the rumor of the Xperia X2 being announced today aren’t true. At the CommunicAsia in Singapore, Sony Ericsson gave a recap on their recently announced handsets. The company went over the specs of the Satio, previously known as Idou, the all in one entertainment phone, as well as the two gaming phones, Yari and Aino.

Sony Ericsson revealed that the handsets are due to be released in early Q4 for the Asia Pacific region. Consumers in that area who pick up the handsets will also get exclusive content. Three movies and music videos are included with the Satio and Aino, which the user can chose from a movie catalogue of around 300 titles. Prince of Persia and Asphalt Road will also be bundled with Satio. Yari on the other hand, users will be able to download three games from a list of around 100 games. Seems like Satio users will be getting the best deal though, even if the price is sure to be higher for the handset.

We’ve seen photos of the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, as well as read of leaked specs, but no official word from Sony Ericsson yet. While tomorrow, Wednesday 17th June, could change all that. An invite has been sent out for a press event in Singapore and leaked. While the invitation hints more at it’s Entertainment Unlimited series which includes the Satio, aka Idou, there’s rumours flying around that the event could also unviel official information on the Xperia X2.

The next game in the Monster Hunter series will be hitting the PSP in a few weeks time. To tide you over until then, or if you haven’t quite decided on the game yet, there’s now a free demo you can download of the game, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

The game is available to download via the PlayStation store both on your PC and PSP. To download from your PC, download the demo from the PlayStation store (Media Go installation required) and once downloaded transfer it to your memory card. Or if you’ve got WiFi access for your PSP, you can download it from the PlayStation Store on the PSP by selecting the Store in the XMB.

no-psp-trophies
Sorry to disappoint you, but the Trophy system found on the PS3, won’t be making it’s way to the PSP. PlayStaion Network Operations director, Eric Lempel was asked about the possibility of trophies on the PSP, but has said they will not be coming to the PSP. Not because users wouldn’t want the system, but because the PSP is very hackable. With custom firmware, the PSP is capable of playing PSP games from the memory stick, which could “artificially inflate” the rankings and trophies of players, which could kill the trophy system. Hackable or not, I think it’s a missed opportunity, where many genuine PSP owners are let down.

If the previous pictures of the upcoming Xperia X2 from Sony Ericsson weren’t enough for you, on the Esato forums more pictures have been posted up. The pictures show the phone while closed, with the display on and in a different color. These shots see the Xperia X2 in silver, which make the handset look even better than the X1. But is the silver more sleek than the black model? I think so.

sony-ericsson-xperia-x1During the research for the GreenHeart line of phones, which are eco friendly and made from recycled materials, Sony Ericsson made some discovers on touch screen handsets. Phones, such as the Xperia X1 which feature a touch screen are not as good for the environment. The screen on the Xperia is 3 inches, which is about the average for touchscreen handsets, can not be made as easily from recycled materials. Handsets with a touch screen rely heavily on glass for the screen compared to smaller handsets, which can use recycled plastic.

A smartphone, or touch screen phone, can give out 25/30kgs of CO2 emissions during it’s usage. Where as a green phone, will omit around 18kgs. This is due to the touch screen and also based on the fact, that most touch screen or smartphones have more than just calling and texting features. Features such as Wi-Fi or GPS can use up more battery life than a call, meaning eco friendly batteries can’t be used in the handsets.
